Over the course of my internship, I plan on working on numerous media related tasks such as creating videos and brochures. I will be making a video for an event that was put on by The Escondido Chamber of Commerce called The Grand Avenue Street Festival. Once this is completed, I will be creating a website for the event and uploading the video content in addition to information about the event. I will also be assisting in the planning of their Annual Installation and Awards Dinner that will take place on June 13.
The skills that I will need in order for this project to be successful include videography/editing skills, communication skills, and attention to detail. I believe that I possess these skills and have the ability to successfully complete this project. My mentor is very supportive and should be able to provide me with any support needed. I am really looking forward to putting my skills to use and creating a solid project at my internship. I have only been interning for three days now and I am enjoying it very much! These are my thoughts thus far...
One thing that i'm curious about concerning this internship is how I can improve as an intern. I want to know what the steps are that I need to take in order to be an intern or employee in the future. Some connections that I can make between my internship and what i've done in school have to do with communication skills, such as writing done in humanities as well as projects that involved doing group work. I have learned that The Escondido Chamber of Commerce is a very important part of the community. It is responsible for improving the local economy and promoting commerce and community. So far I have been developing my communication skills and professionalism, two very important skills for this type of internship. I would like to continue developing these skills so that I can succeed in this internship and be able to use these skills in the future. My first impression of the workplace after day one is that it seems like a very organized, peaceful, and welcoming place to work. Everyone that I met seemed to be very friendly and easygoing, which makes for a great work environment. I’m very excited to be doing the job that i’m doing because it will allow me to meet and interact with a variety of business owners. The only thing i’m worried about is the time going by too fast, as I can see myself really enjoying this internship.
We hope to expose you to an array of duties, but will mainly be focusing on communications through our social media, newsletter and printed material.
Truthfully, I wish I had supportive parents that knew how to encourage their children to explore their talents thoroughly. Who knows what I would have accomplished! Team work makes the dream work. Ask for help when you need it.
Here are some thoughts for being successful in any organization: It is important to be open to learning new things and ask probing questions. Learn daily tasks quickly. Be able to work on your own, unsupervised. Understand the end goal and look for opportunities to improve the process and/or the outcome. Approach all things with humility. Your input is valuable and so is that of others working with you.
Being able to converse. A conversation leads to a conclusion that both parties understand (they may not agree, but they have the respect for each other to see the other side of things.) Meet and greet each person as if they are the most important person in the room. Be a good listener. Take pride in everything you do, even those task that will not get attention. |
