My first impression of the workplace after day one is that it seems like a very organized, peaceful, and welcoming place to work. Everyone that I met seemed to be very friendly and easygoing, which makes for a great work environment. I’m very excited to be doing the job that i’m doing because it will allow me to meet and interact with a variety of business owners. The only thing i’m worried about is the time going by too fast, as I can see myself really enjoying this internship.
We hope to expose you to an array of duties, but will mainly be focusing on communications through our social media, newsletter and printed material.
Truthfully, I wish I had supportive parents that knew how to encourage their children to explore their talents thoroughly. Who knows what I would have accomplished! Team work makes the dream work. Ask for help when you need it.
Here are some thoughts for being successful in any organization: It is important to be open to learning new things and ask probing questions. Learn daily tasks quickly. Be able to work on your own, unsupervised. Understand the end goal and look for opportunities to improve the process and/or the outcome. Approach all things with humility. Your input is valuable and so is that of others working with you.
Being able to converse. A conversation leads to a conclusion that both parties understand (they may not agree, but they have the respect for each other to see the other side of things.) Meet and greet each person as if they are the most important person in the room. Be a good listener. Take pride in everything you do, even those task that will not get attention. For my internship I will be working with The Escondido Chamber of Commerce, a non-profit organization, responsible for building a stronger local economy and helping the community thrive.
My mentor is Rorie Johnston, President/CEO of the Escondido Chamber of Commerce. As an intern, I will be working with the chamber to produce videos for local businesses in an effort to provide more value for their members. I am very excited to have the opportunity to learn more about the Escondido business community and what makes it thrive. The only thing that I am nervous about for this internship is being able to successfully fit in and interact in such a professional business environment. It will definitely be a very new experience for me, and I am excited to see where it takes me. |
